Do I need an internet connection to send an Email Alert Message?
Yes, most email servers require internet connections to send emails.

What does SMTP Server, Port, and SSL mean?
SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, which is the communication protocol for electronic mail transmissions. Most common email providers have their own SMTP Server email address.

Most email providers will also allow this communication across a specific port on the network, which is the SMTP Server Port. 

SSL stands for Secured Sockets Layer which allows for Transport Layer Security when sending emails from email providers accounts. Having such a layer will often require a specific security password to be generated and used with third party applications such as Seek Scan.

How do I set up Seek Scan to send emails from my OUTLOOK account?

1. Fill in the appropriate email server settings for your Microsoft Outlook; the default settings are as follows:

SMTP Server Address = “smtp.office365.com”
SMTP Server Port = “587”
Secured Socket Layer (SSL) = √

2. Please enter the User Name (often email address) and Password associated with the Email Provider’s Email Account that will be sending the emails.

3. List the email address for the email account that will be sending the email message alerts out. List the email addresses for the Email Alert to be sent to, please separate email addresses with a comma.

4. Select the Include Images checkbox to include a daylight image .jpg file of the Alert Scan.

 

How do I set up Seek Scan to send emails from my GMAIL account?

1. Fill in the appropriate email server settings for your Microsoft Outlook; the default settings are as follows:

SMTP Server Address = “smtp.gmail.com”
SMTP Server Port = “587”
Secured Socket Layer (SSL) = √

2. Please enter the User Name (often email address). You will need to generate a security password, to learn how please follow the steps indicated below.

3. List the email address for the email account that will be sending the email message alerts out. List the email addresses for the Email Alert to be sent to, please separate email addresses with a comma.

4. Select the Include Images checkbox to include a daylight image .jpg file of the Alert Scan.

 

How do I generate a Security Password for my Gmail email account?
If you are using a Gmail account, you will need to generate a password for security 2-Factor Authentication. To do this please perform the following steps:

  1. Open a web browser and log into your Gmail email account. Select your account button in the upper right-hand corner of the browser, then select the Manage your Google Account window.
  2. Select the Security tab from the dropdown menu.

  3. Select the App passwords expansion arrow.

  4. Select Other (Custom name) from the Select app dropdown.

  5. Type in a name of your choice and select the GENERATE button to generate a password.

  6. Use this generated password for the password utilized in your Seek Scan SMTP Sever account in the Email Settings window. You will use this new password instead of the password normally associated with your email account.

If you are using a Yahoo Mail email account, you will need to generate a password for security authentication. To do this please perform the following steps:

  1. Open a web browser and log into your Yahoo Mail email account. Select your account button in the upper right-hand corner of the browser, then select the Account Info link.

  2. Select the Account Security tab on the left side of the browser, scroll to the bottom of the Account Security page and select the Generate app password button.

  3. Select ‘Other App’ from the ‘Select your app’ dropdown.

  4. Type in the name of your choice and select the GENERATE button to generate a password.
